It is an art of conveying ideas with pictures and words. Simplicity is the key to win here. Good article.

I had to come back to mention that I have found even more tools to make my copy write successful with James Brausch. I am actually loking at picking up his internet business in a box. The Glyphius software has made incredible advances and I am hoping some of his other items will do the same for me.

It is too bad that some people are using your comment area for profanity. On copy writing, I am a fairly new internet marketer & copy writing did not come easily to me. I searched around the web for some help. I was not looking to spend a ton of money on paying someone to write for me. I did find glyphius a software that helps me mathematically ensure my content will be used. I enjoyed the content in your post. Thanks

are you kidding? people are online for the pictures. reading text on a screen (especially a lot of it) takes too much time and strains your eyes.

A-men.

And to build on what CWW said, throughout my vast and extensive copywriting career, I've encountered a staggering number of people who (mistakenly) thought that because they had hands, they could write.

It's one of the reasons I only do copywriting for a select few clients anymore. Most people have no appreciation for the skill of subtraction. Bleh.

Couldn't agree more, Kyle. And of course, as tough as it often is for laymen to see the value in paying for professional web site design (I mean, I'm sure someone's nephew knows how to do this for free, right?), it's twice as hard to convince them that not only are you proposing to charge them for design, but also for writing copy.

Too many of my clients skip out on the option to have me write their copy (and refuse to let me proofread their own, even for free), and the resulting site is a total disaster, like Pamela Anderson giving a speech on metaphysics. Most of the time I don't even include clients in my portfolio who demand to write their own putrid copy.

Wow, talk about an idea so obvious that everybody misses it: copywriting is interface design.

Your copy is your most direct connection to your audience. It establishes the identity of the narrator in the reader's head: Is this person talking to me a smart, savvy, but accessible guy like the actor Apple is using to represent a Mac in their current commercials; or is the person talking to me the teacher from Ferris Buehler's Day Off? Buehler? Buehler?

Thanks for the lightbulb!

Content is king, true. But copywriting is definitely more than interface design!

I have to agree with everything you say in this article; it's all too true.

Oh, and Apple rules.
